On Thursday, 22 March 2012, come to our Board Games Night!
It will be starting at 17:00 in E-121, In the Physical Education Building by Van Vliet (The same room we had our Meeting in at the beginning of the year)
Bring your favourite board games to campus for a fun study/homework break! We will have multiple games going at once and possibly tournaments!
We will also be having pizza! So please bring $5 to help with the cost. We'll be ordering around 5pm!
Please invite your friends, the more the merrier!

NORDEGG Cabin Fever

When: March 9-11 2012
Where: HI Shunda Creek Hostel in Nordegg, Alberta
Who: You and 47 other UAOC members
What: A weekend of fun in the mountains. Day trips include: Snowshoeing, skiing, downhill skiing (175Km away), possibly hiking/scrambling, and intro to ice climbing (See below)
Travel: Carpool (gas costs split between passengers of the car)
Cost: $50.00 (Plus $70.00 if you want climbing)
Intro to Ice climbing at Nordegg: On the Saturday of the trip (March 10) we are running an introduction to ice climbing course for 10 people. $70.00 per person (includes rentals and guiding).
Signups are still happening! Come down to our office SUB 616 to sign-up!
Please bring your money and Alberta Healthcare card. Please have an idea as to what day trip you want to do on the Saturday.

Revelstoke Ski Trip

When: Feb 17-Feb 20
Where: Revelstoke British Columbia at Revelstoke Mountain Resort
Who: You and 56 other awesome people
How much:
-Option A: Includes bus, 3 days of lift tickets, 3 nights in a shared 4
person hotel room, $310
-Option B: Includes bus, 2 days of lift tickets, 1 day of cross-country
skiing, 3 nights in a shared 4 peron hotel room, $280
-Option C: Includes bus, 2 days of lift tickets, 3 nights in a shared
4 person hotel room, $272
Why: because it's Reading Week and you want to get out of Edmonton
If you don't want to go downhill skiing the entire three days you can choose amongst our three pricing options and spend another day or two cross country skiing with the Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club! Or if something else in the Revelstoke area tickles your fancy, then it's yours!

Castle Mountain Hostel Weekend!

What: A weekend in the mountains to get away from school and enjoy the snow! Day trip options include cross-country skiing, backcountry skiing, downhill skiing/snowboarding, snowshoeing…
Where: On Highway 1 between Banff and Lake Louise; we will be carpooling.
When: Feb.3-5 (leaving after school on Friday, arriving back mid afternoon Sunday depending on day trips)

We hope you all had a great break and the transition back to school is going well. (At least you're back so you can go on more UAOC trips!)
Upcoming trips!
Avalanche Skill Training (AST 1)
Where? Bow Summit and Rampart Greek Hostel
When? Jan. 27-29th 2012
How much? 220$
What you get:
You will get to spend two nights at a remote hostel in the mountains, meet people with the same interests and learn about snow. Is there a better way to spend your weekend?
AST Level 1 has a minimum of 7 hours of classroom instruction (28th) plus one full day in the field (28th). This course covers the fundamentals of backcountry avalanche awareness and companion rescue. This course will be a requirement for many of our upcoming backcountry ski trips. Each participant will receive a certificate from the Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA) after successfully completing course requirements over the weekend.

SWC – Learn how to X-Country Ski
Where? Strathcona Wilderness Centre
When? Jan. 29th 2012
How much? 40$ (including equipment rentals)
What you get:
Care to learn about a new way to enjoy the winter?
Participants will be introduced to the classic technique of cross-country skiing by a certified instructor. The main focus will be gaining comfort on skis. Students will learn about weight shifting, flat terrain and hill techniques. Proper equipment, dress and trail etiquette will also be discussed. Afterwards, students will be able to try out their new skills accompanied by the two student trip leaders.
Sign ups: open Jan. 10th, 2011 at 11 am (office – SUB 616)
Alternative sign-up day and time: Jan. 11, at 5:30pm
